How To Get Out Of Your Own Way

Often times we know exactly what we want, we just have been conditioned to not know how to get there. Our society seems to be built around raising good little robot factory worker sheep, and punishing anybody who tries to make a difference.  We always herald people who managed to break out of the herd as geniuses. We tend to idolize people like Steve Jobs, Elon Musk, and many other people who broke free and ended up shaping our world in a big way, yet we still think it's impossible for us. We have been conditioned to believe that those people have something that we don't, but in reality, we have something that they were able to get rid of, and that is our internal roadblocks that have been constructed from the day we're born. So in today's post, I'll be discussing how to break down those road blocks, so that you too can get out of your way and go on to shape the world around us.
A technique that I absolutely love for doing this, and it works for just about any situation in life, is called "Kylego".  Kylego is the process of taking a future event or goal, and talking out loud (either to yourself or to a friend) about it as though the event just happened. In this process, you trick your brain into thinking that you've already accomplished the goal, and then force yourself to "remember" how you accomplished it.  When you declare that something really did happen, your brain has to creatively fill in the blanks. The goal is to set your beginning and set the end of the story, and make your brain figure out how you got to this ending that you would prefer.  It can be extremely tricky at first, but the more you push forward with this exercise the easier it gets. You start to get into a creative flow where answers are flying at you faster than you can process, and this is perfect.

It's best to also not get stuck on the final outcome either, because you'll find that when you kylego for a long time, you start to think of bigger and bigger things, and before you know it you've worked your way up to leapfrogging your original goal. A lot of times you might get halfway through and realize that you don't actually want that goal to come true, because there's something even bigger waiting for you that accomplishing the original goal might mess up. It's just the process of letting creativity flow through you and saying what you really want, without filtering yourself. You can't stop to analyze during this method, you have to just speak your mind and edit later. Whenever you want to know what you should do, you always know within 2 seconds, you just confuse yourself by applying all these social filters to it.

Question: What is one thing you have always wanted to do, but never did because you've been making excuses as to why it won't work? Are you going to do it now?  Leave your answers in the comments below!
